New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez arrived at the federal courthouse in Newark on Thursday, one day after he promised that he would be cleared of criminal charges that he abused his power by granting favors to a wealthy eye doctor who in turn provided him with luxury vacations, golf trips, and tens of thousands of dollars in contributions to a legal defense fund. NEWARK, N.J. -- U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges he accepted nearly $1 million in gifts and campaign contributions from a longtime friend in exchange for a stream of political favors.
