Southwest given five days to inspect 128 planes; few Bay Area flights cancelled

After initially grounding 128 planes Tuesday, Southwest Airlines has been given five days to complete maintenance checks of the backup hydraulic systems on those aircraft, a move that resulted in a handful of cancellations to flights nationwide and in the Bay Area. In a statement, Southwest Airlines said it discovered 128 of its planes missed inspections of the backup hydraulic systems used to control the rudder if the main system fails.
