American Secretary of State John Kerry claimed "real and substantial" progress had been made towards resolving the confrontation over Iran's nuclear ambitions yesterday, but six days of intensive talks in Vienna failed to produce an agreement. Eight meetings between the US secretary of state and Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Iranian foreign minister, led only to the announcement of another deadline of 30 June for achieving a comprehensive deal.
