U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand signed on Friday to legislation introduced by Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., that would speed up Positive Train Control on passenger rail lines and tracks traveled by trains carrying crude oil or ethanol. Positive Train Control, mandated by Congress in 2008, is the railroad world's equivalent of an air-traffic-control system.
